The ready-to-use liquid instantly provides a fresh scent to most unwanted odours. yardFRESH is an environmentally conscious product and is made from plant extracts to contribute towards the protection of our planet. We can all do our part no matter how slight it may be. So, the next time you clean your yard, please consider some green aspects: air, water, soil and land pollution; factors contributing towards climate change and global warming; increased carbon footprint; household and industrial waste; agricultural, light and noise pollution and littering and landfills. Finding ways to improving these factors can make a difference to your immediate environment and the globe!

Air, Water, Soil and Land Pollution

Many years of renewal are needed to circumvent the detrimental effects of air, water and soil pollution. Vehicle engine fumes are the culprits of most toxins and metals, nitrates, and plastic are poisons of pollution. Clean drinking water has become an issue as waste from industrial and agricultural activities pollute the water that is used by humans, animals, and plants. Littering, deforestation, industrial, construction, and agricultural activities have detrimental effects on the land.

Climate Change and Global Warming

“Climate change is a long-term change in the average weather patterns that have come to define Earth’s local, regional and global climates. These changes have a broad range of observed effects that are synonymous with the term”.

“Global warming is the long-term heating of Earth’s climate system observed since the pre-industrial period (between 1850 and 1900) due to human activities, primarily fossil fuel burning, which increases heat-trapping greenhouse gas levels in Earth’s atmosphere”. As responsible citizens, we have to work with the government and other organizations in the fight to save our planet. Renewables, less consumption, awareness and responsible mobilization are some ways to begin the process at home.

Increased Carbon Footprint

Human beings are responsible for climate change by producing Greenhouse gases. Carbon dioxide, water vapour, methane, ozone, nitrous oxide and fluorinated gases emit molecules in our atmosphere that are called greenhouse gases which absorb heat. Consider energy-saving alternatives for outdoor lighting and power supply to various areas around the house.

Household and Industrial Waste

We must ensure that we reduce, reuse and recycle to minimize the amount of waste per capita. Consider how our actions impact the environment and look for ways of improvement and the conservation of natural resources. Landfill airspace needs to be saved so that these sites can be used for agriculture, housing or other benefits. Avoid plastics, buy food that has minimal packaging and compost your kitchen waste as far as possible.

Agricultural Pollution

Pesticides, fertilizers and other pest control methods are harmful to the ground. These chemicals seep into the soil, harming plants and crops. Be careful of using contaminated water for irrigation too and stick to natural alternative pest control for veggie gardens, lawns and other areas in the garden.

Light and Noise Pollution

Perhaps less of a matter, but noise pollution causes temporary disruption and is mostly unpleasant. Construction activities, industrialization and vehicle noise are all contributing factors. So, if you are renovating or building, please be considerate and have a chat with the neighbours.

Littering and Landfills

Under section 27 of the National Environmental Management: Waste Act 59 of 2008, “No person may (a) throw, drop, deposit, spill or in any other way discard any litter into or onto any public place, land, vacant erf, stream, watercourse, street or road, or on any place to which the general public has access”. However, littering remains a problem.

The Department of Environmental Affairs (“DEA”) says 98 million tonnes of waste is deposited across South Africa's 826 landfill sites every year! Residential and commercial composting may be a practical solution.

So, whatever method you choose to save our planet, yardFRESH will make a difference too.
